I won't miss power cuts
Tweet
Got up with effort, having slept very little. Mom made me her amazing coffee, I got into the beach flip-flops and the bathrobe, ran the bath, took a cigarette and got out, to gather my wits. In a couple of minutes, the block of flats' lobby went dark. I went in. The house was silent. The bath was half full. Water was running cold. My dad gave me a flashlight.
No music, no hot water, no laptop, no heating and no Internet. Neither a sign that anyone was rushing to fix it. I left home hours later. Through the darkness. Thankfully washed, but resentful.
I won't miss a system designed to shut down periodically. I won't miss my years in the dark.
